Situated in the mid-east of China and to the middle and lower reaches of Yellow river, Henan province is in the southwest of the Huanghai and Huaihai Plains. Most of its territory lies in the south of Yellow River, so it gains the name "Henan". More than two thousand years ago, Henan province was called "Yuzhou", which was the center of Chinese nine cantons. For this reason, Henan province is called "Yu" for short. It is also known as "Middle Zhou" and "Central Plain of China". With an area of about 167,000 sq km, Henan province is adjacent to Hebei, Shanxi, Shanxi, Hubei, Anhui, Shangdong province. Yellow River flows across the territory of Henan by more than 700 km.
